17:00 Wednesday 16th – 17:00 Thursday 17th March
The Venue, University of Kent, Canterbury
Update: Saturday 19th March
We have successfully completed our 24 hour ergathon for Ukraine! We rowed 361km, exceeding our aim of reaching The Hague via Dover, Calais, Bruges, and Antwerp - a 335km trip!
Your generous donations both on the day and via our GoFundMe came to a total of £1,658.39. We sincerely thank everyone who has donated to our ergathon and supported the British Red Cross in their involvement with the DEC Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal. We are staggered by the incredible generosity we have received over the past week – it really has meant so much to all of us!
Your donations could help the British Red Cross to provide:
- Hygiene kits to keep 165 families of five healthy for a month
- Blankets for 410 people taking shelter
- Chlorine tablets to provide 198,000 measures of clean, safe water
- Sleeping mats for 1,056 people who have been forced from their homes
- First aid kits to equip 7 first aiders fully
Once again, we are truly touched by your kindness and your solidarity with the Ukrainian people during this difficult time.
We will continue to accept donations via GoFundMe until 17:00 on Monday 21st March - don’t miss out on the chance to help this worthwhile cause!
Original post: Wednesday 9th March
We are all horrified by the events unfolding in Ukraine, and we are desperate to help those affected by the conflict in any way we can. Next week, we will be rowing for 24 hours continuously on indoor rowing machines to raise money for the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal, working with the British Red Cross.
You will be able to find us on the plaza opposite The Venue from 17:00 on Wednesday 16th to 17:00 on Thursday 17th March. We will have cash buckets and card readers for donations. You can follow our progress through the day on Instagram, and donate via our GoFundMe if you can’t make it in person.
All the money we raise will be donated to the British Red Cross for the DEC Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal, and will help provide food, first aid, and clean water to those affected by the conflict; repair vital infrastructure; and support hospitals and healthcare facilities. So far, Red Cross teams have distributed over 30,000 food and hygiene parcels and provided aid to approximately 8,000 people sheltering in metro stations. We are honoured to be able to support this incredible effort and express our solidarity with the Ukrainian people through this difficult time.
We look forward to seeing you on campus next week in support of the people of Ukraine.
