Winter Training Camp
10th - 15th january 2011
This year’s winter training camp took place down at the club’s boathouse at Plucks between the 10th and 15th January, a week before the start of the new term. Although long and gruelling, it was considered a huge success for all the squads. With the weather holding out, crews were able to achieve their training goals.
The men’s senior crews were able to achieve the distance required throughout the winter months. This year saw the addition of two new development crews in attendance and, with countless hours of technical training, both crews made good solid progress. The men’s captain can now turn his focus to the term to come: “The squad will continue to knock up the mileage for another few weeks until the emphasis will switch to pre-competition training.”
Sarah Harvey, the Women’s captain
was also proud of her squad: “The
girl’s squad learnt a lot, and there has
been a great deal of improvement from
all rowers both in technique and power.”
Greatly anticipant of the upcoming term,
Sarah shares her enthusiasm: “I can’t
wait to see how the girls get on this
term as Heads are starting, and
Regattas aren’t far off either.”
Even the coxing squad saw success,
with new coxies to join the ranks. Chloe
Marshall was very pleased with the
progress made by one of the new coxies,
Gill Casson. She says: “Gill has settled in really well, getting to grips with everything; much like a duck to water.” All crews have gelled well with their coxy (and vice versa) and the progress made throughout the week has been noted by many. “From this point on, Gill will be getting to grips with the bow-loader and our even newer coxy Stephanie, who unfortunately couldn't make WTC, will be trying out the coxy's seat.”
We’d all like to thank James and Robin for all the help they’ve given us and we look forward to seeing more of them in the future.
