Time to erg!
7th - 11th February 2011

Kent Rowing’s erg-a-thon, is the club’s major annual fundraising event to generate revenue for the direct use of the club and is used to support the operation of the squad and to purchase needed equipment. These purchases allow the club to reach its goal of high performance and successful racing. With the cost of a new 4+ (coxed four) at £5000, cox boxes costing £200 and stroke coaches at £145, fundraising is crucial to the success of the club. Kent Rowing is also raising money for the British Rowing Foundation, which is a charity that promotes rowing for young people and those disabled of all ages. Half the money we raise will be donated to this charity.

The sport of rowing has been growing steadily
in popularity in the UK with people of all ages.
This growth in popularity has been mirrored at
Kent Rowing, with the club significantly increasing
in size over the past few years to become one of
the largest clubs at the University of Kent. Last
year the club saw success at local competitions
and national events such as the British Universities
& College Sport Regatta and Henley’s Women
Regatta. These results are incredible for a club of
our size and financial means. This is why the
erg-a-thon is important as it allows us to raise the
funds that we need to compete with other boat
clubs in terms of equipment and training
opportunities.

The erg-a-thon will be running from February 7th-11th over which the ergometer will not stop. Each rower in the club will take several shifts over the course of the week. As the rowers erg, donations will be collected from anyone willing to contribute. For each pound donated, the rower on the erg will perform a “power of 10” which is 10 strokes of full pressure.

More money donated at any given time, the more
power stokes the rower must perform. Make the
rowers work for it, but please do support them.
They will be on the University of Kent Canterbury
campus outside the Templeman library on
Monday. Tuesday you can find them in Darwin
College. On Wednesday, they’ll be sweating at
the Sports Pavilion in Parkwood. On Thursday
they’ll be dying in Rutherford College and finally
on Friday they’ll be finishing in Keynes College.

If you are interested in donating and supporting Kent Rowing, please send all donations to:
