Spitfire is the rowing club for the Alumni of the University of Kent Rowing Club.

The club was formed in 2001 as the alumni Club for the University of Kent Rowing Club, but it was soon realised that, as a closed club (membership restricted to a single class of members - i.e. alumni), it would unable to register as a Community Amateur Sports Club which provides a range of benefits such as the ability to claim Giftaid in respect of donations to the Club, and would not be eligible for any grants from the Lottery or other bodies. Accordingly it realigned itself as an open Club and elected Mike Kennedy (UKRC's Director of Rowing and a local resident) as Chairman. Spitfire and UKRC work closely together and own jointly a coaching launch and outboard, a coxed four and the ramp and pontoon that allows access to the river at Plucks Gutter.

There is a special subscription rate - currently £10 per year - for alumni who wish to remain in contact with the sport but for whatever reason are unable to row for the Club. The rowing subscription is currently £25 per year.
