Upcoming events to tickle your tastebuds
November 10th 2009
With those Saturday and Sunday mornings getting colder and colder as winter approaches, the club is pleased to confirm the dates of several events to warm your hearts. Further details of each event will be confirmed in the coming weeks. Until then, keep checking your KentMail and keep you the following dates free in your diary!
Kent Rowing Alumni Day
Sunday 6th December
The club is delighted to confirm that the first annual Kent Rowing Alumni Day will take place on Sunday 6th September. The day will see Alumni crews racing against current Senior crews in a series of races. The races are just for fun, but no doubt competition will be fierce as the current club members attempt to prove they are faster than the zimmerframe-using alumni. The alumni are currently in the process of putting together crews, who will ultimately face the dissappointment of defeat.
The club was hoping to organise such an alumni event this year, and with the annual alumni dinner taking place the night before on the 5th, the club saw the 6th as the perfect opportunity to get the alumni back to Plucks and strengthen our connections with them. The day will also see a barbeque, and maybe the odd drink or two.
It should be stressed that Novices who have outings on Sunday will not be missing out on training, and will have their outing moved to Saturday on this weekend. Novices are also welcome to attend the alumni day.
If you are an Alumni interested in attending, please get in contact with Secretary Jen, and Social Secretary Chloe. Their email address' are available on the Committee page.
Kit Night
Wednesday 9th December
Kent Rowing take over The Venue clad in full kit for a night of drunken preparation for the Novice Head, just four days later. Dress code is simple - All-in-one-lycra for Seniors, and College shirts and shorts/lycra for Novices. By Kit Night, all Novices will have received their College kit, ready to represent the club. The night will start at a Bar (TBC) moving on to The Venue where you can show off your beautiful beautiful kit.
If you look close enough on the new Venue flyers, you can just about make out 'Kent Rowing' in Week 11 on the Wednesday. Click here to view the flyer.
Novice Head
Sunday 13th December
The biggest day in the Kent Rowing calender sees the weeks and weeks of training culminate in one day of action packed races. All Novice crews who have put in enough training will race the 800m along The Stour in a Head type race, with your starting and finishing times recorded for an overall time. Each crew will race twice - once in a Quad boat, and once in a Sweep boat - against other Novice crews in all of the Colleges in an attempt to be crowned Novice Head winners 2009.
The day will also feature a barbeque, refreshments and warm showers... just in case.
Bow Ball
Sunday 13th December
The Bow Ball is the club's Gala night of the year where all club members gather dressed in their finest suits for a three course dinner and the announcement of the Novice Head winners.
This year the Bow Ball will be held at the beautiful Cathedral Lodge, which is on the grounds of Canterbury Cathedral. After the dinner and presentations, the night will move on to a bar (TBC) where furthar celebrations will take place. The evening is generally considered the highlight of the Kent Rowing social calendar and is not to be missed. The whole night will cost £35 per person, with furthar details to be confirmed closer to the date.
The club has also agreed a 25% discount agreement with Moss Brothers Suit Rental in Canterbury, so all of the guys can look positively dapper for the occassion.

In other news, there have been two small - but important - changes to the website. They are:
- Inclusion of a link to the online boat booking system on the side bar. All weekday outings for both Novice and Senior crews must be booked by a Senior using the online booking system.
- Inclusion of an easysearch bar on the sidebar. Every search made from this search bar raises half a penny for the club. It may not sound much, but if the whole club are searching using this method, we can raise a lof of half pennys for the club!
As well as these changes, the 'Memories' section of the website is set to see changes over the next few days as old photos of the club are put up. Expect to see black and white photos of moustache-wearing Kent Rowers in the coming days...
