Boston Training and site update
August 6th 2009
Following the site launch on Saturday, i'm pleased to announce the site is all but finished. I've made a few tweaks to the site since the weekend, creating a page specifically for our boats, and adding to the 'Essentials' page for Freshers to learn the basics. I've also finished writing reports from the clubs races. The only pages not complete are the 'Sponsorship' page and the 'Memories' page. A sponsorship brochure is still being put together, and i'm still talking to Alumni about writing articles.
Also, details on training for this year have also been announced. Men's Captain, Sam Webb, and Women's Captain, Sarah Fish, have sent out this message:
So get in touch with the captain's as soon as possible. Also, thanks for all the feedback on the site, it's been very helpful. Check back soon for furthar updates!
This years Boston Marathon will be on the 20th of September. Although it is a 31 mile race, we primerily use it as a way to get back into rowing training. Everyone who is interested in doing it will need to be back in Canterbury on the 7th of September. From the 7th up until race day there will be a training camp that will get everyone back together and used to rowing.
For the Captains the training camp will act as an excelent way for early crew selection and participation in the Marathon demonstrates the drive and commitment expected from racing crews,
We are hoping to be able to borrow an 8 from Kings School to race in which would be awesome if we manage to borrow it, as i know many of you have never rowed in an 8 before, its just an idea at the moment so i'm not promising anything.
We know some of you may have heard horror stories from last years crews, and the visions of Brian's hands, but if you ask any of the girls I'm sure they will tell you how pleased they were to have had the opportunity to take part in the race (and win!).
The club hopes to raise money for charity through completion of the race, as yet we are undecided as to what charity the money will be given to.
Boston Marathon training is a great way getting back into rowing, getting an early head start on other university crews, whilst the training camp still remains fun and enjoyable, and a great way to meet up with everyone after summer.
The Deadline for decisions is 12th August so could you please let your respective captain know if you wish to participate by then by emailing staw2@kent.ac.uk (Sam) or sf212@kent.ac.uk (Sarah).
Cheers!
