Kent Rowing's year to remember
August 1st 2010
It's been a great year for Kent Rowing with much grit, determination and commitment shown by all of our members. Once again the Club stamped its mark at the Star Regatta in Bedford with several victories adding to an already impressive number. Other wins this year included Boston Marathon, Marlow Head, Maidstone Spring Head and Bedford Regatta. At BUCS two of crews made it through to the final in the intermediate category, a first in Kent Rowing history.
Our Men’s crews have had a difficult year with crew changes and boats but have certainly made the best of it with multiple wins and ARA points to show for it. Women’s 1st had a bitter ending to Henley Women’s Regatta with their wire snapping in their first heat against Edinburgh. However this year has been a phenomenal success for this crew, winning almost every race that they entered and earning 2 ARA points in the Regatta Season. Well done to Sarah Fish, Briony Rose, Alice Mason, Antonia Gerlach and Catherine Pateman. Sarah Harvey and Kate Thatchell in the Double have also had a great year, missing out by less than a second on third place in the final at BUCS. However they went on to win at Star Regatta, well done guys.
Our novices have come on in leaps and bounds and show real promise, testament to the great deal of hard work that has in from them and also their coaches. Thank you and well done to all of this year’s crews. May next year’s crews build on your success. Also a job well done to 2009/2010 Committee. They did an exceptional job and hopefully this year’s Committee will do the same if not better. Thank you to them also. The club shows great strength and depth, may next year be another to remember.

A message from James Cooper, 2009/2010 President -
I sincerely hope that all of you will continue with the Rowing club this coming academic term. Joining the club was without a doubt the best thing I did whilst at University. You get out of University what you put into it, and you have all done so and learned so much from it. I wish the best of luck for those coming back next year at the start of term, and for those who have graduated who are now embarking on their professional paths.
You have all made this year a fantastic one, and I really look forward to seeing you all at some random weekend down the boathouse. I am more than confident that next years committee under Sam will do great work.
Many thanks to Mike, all members of the club, and the committee.
James
