Races 2008/09

Boston Marathon
Lincoln to Boston, 21st September 2008

Kent’s impressive record at the Boston Rowing Marathon continued as the women’s coxed four triumphed at the annual 51km race.

After completing an intensive two week training camp, the University of Kent Rowing Club had a successful day at the marathon. The women’s crew were the only representatives from Kent, and managed to complete it in an outstanding time of 4 hours 36 minutes, good enough for first place in the Senior 3 Women’s Coxed Fours.

The club had planned to send two crews, a men’s four and the women’s four, but due to an injury to one of the men’s crew they were unable to race, however they still travelled up in support!

The women’s boat, coxed by Carmelia Paramasivan, was made up of Lucy Archer at stroke, backed up by Amy Hills, Briony Rose and Emily Iles at bow. Competing against three other boats from different clubs around the country, Kent finished 7 minutes ahead of the second placed crew and over an hour faster than the two other boats. Never once did the four look tired, and kept a strong rhythm throughout the race.

“Initially, the aim was to complete the race in around 5 hours, so to completely smash that time was great! And winning our division was an added bonus” says Amy. “I’m so glad we did it!”

Congratulations to the girls!
