After the three week training camp, the women’s first IV entered into their first regatta of the season, whilst also revising for exams and writing final pieces of coursework. The largest one day regatta in Britain, Bedford Amateur Regatta attracted hordes of competitors, all basking in the lovely sunshine.
After a successful head season, the Kent Rowing Women’s first IV comprising of Sarah Fish, Alice Mason, Briony Rose and Antonia Gerlach coxed by Catherine Pateman stormed through their first heat and the semi finals, to rival Somerville in the final. The Somerville crew, larger than ours, generated a lot of power, giving our girls a good challenge.
As the two crews went through the stone bridge neck and neck, the Kent girls pushed hard to get ahead, a lead which they held, cruising into victory and winning their first British Rowing point, placing them into the IM3 category. The girls have done very well this year, and this is hopefully the start to a successful regatta season for the whole club, with Star Regatta and Henley Women’s regatta just over the horizon.
